HACK 4 GOOD SPRINGFIELD HOSTS THIRD ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMMING COMPETITION, RECOGNIZES TOP THREE TEAMS
High School Computer Science students attend local competition designed to help them prepare for future collegiate coding competitions.

SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI, November 1st 2019 — Mid-America Technology Alliance (MATA) hosted the 3rd annual High School Programming Competition event at efactory, attracting 42 students from 10 area schools. Each team worked together to solve up to 13 software problems in 3.5 hours. Teachers attended a workshop to help their students prepare for future contests.

Scoring for this ICPC-inspired event was based on problems solved, number of attempts, and time spent solving each problem. Trophies were awarded to the top three teams:

1st Place: Southwest Classical Homeschool
Team Name: “sudo make me a sandwich”
Students: Jack Pendleton, Logan Wightman, Curtis Tausig
Teacher: Libby Pendleton

2nd Place: Ozark High School
Team Name: “Pipeline Predators”
Students: D’Ante Newburn, Tyler Cobb, Nate Kean
Teacher: Steve Stoll

3rd Place: Heil Home School
Team Name: “Heil Home School”
Student: Charlie Heil
Teacher: Dannon Heil

1st and 2nd place teams scored the same number of points, but the 1st place team submitted their solutions more quickly. Detailed scoreboard results are published for the top ten teams.

Problems and sample solutions are published after each competition so that students can prepare for the competition by studying materials from prior year competitions. http://github.com/matasgf/hspc

The competition and workshop were free to attend. Event costs were paid by local partners and sponsors including efactory, Missouri State University College of Business and software companies Added Innovation, Gravitate Solutions, Logic Forte, World Wide Technology.

This event was organized by the Mid-America Technology Alliance (MATA) and completely planned, organized, and run by community members and volunteers through MATA, The Geek Foundation, and Springfield Devs. The event was hosted by the efactory in Springfield Missouri.
