Startup Weekend (Tylor & Emerald Hindery)

  • Tentative: Feb 8th-10th 2019 @ The eFactory
  • 54 hour event that encourages entrepreneurship. All participants encouraged to pitch project ideas on opening night, judges narrow down projects, participants form teams around top projects, plan/design/develop project, demo project to judges on Sunday.
  • Encourage people with various skills to participate. Programming is only 1/4th of the team. Need to attract design, business, marketing talent as well.
  • Organizers – Ask each group to delegate someone.Need about 6 organizers to help with planning and multiple mentors to help the weekend of the event. Must be available entire weekend of 02/08-02/10 (not just one day).
  • Sponsors – Looking for event sponsorships.Contact Tylor/Emerald.

Group Updates

eFactory User Groups (Paige Oxendine)

  • Updated user group policy more accommodating for user groups.
  • Student workers onsite to monitor traffic and keep doors open for first 30 minutes of group meeting. Doors lock after that. Recommend posting note with phone number at front door for any late arrivals.

MATA – Planning New Website (Jason Klein, Jason Arend)

  • New website will be much more community focused. Discuss features that would be useful to community, user groups.
  • Recruiting editors to assist with upkeep of content/information.
  • Groups are looking for help with hosting costs. Will look into recommending specific hosts or working to establish hosting plan that multiple groups can use.

Python (Jason Klein)

  • Chad not available to host. Helping him reboot this group and transition leadership to 3 new co-organizers: Tim Baynes, Stephen Biston, Miguel Solano

SpfdSec – BSides Springfield (Bethany Young)

  • Sat July 14th @ Drury University
  • Attendance 120-130 people
  • Event ran very smoothly. All vendors and speakers showed up.
  • Looking at July 2019. Need to stay two weeks ahead of Black Hat and Defcon in LV
  • Breakfast (Artisan Cafe) sponsored by Revolution Security
  • Lunch (Big Slice Pizza) sponsored. 25 pizzas plenty.
  • Facilities – No problems with Drury Science Building. Same day setup/cleanup.
